Krimmler wasserfall
The Krimml Wasserfall is the highest waterfall in Central Europe and is therefore a spectacular tourist attraction.
At 3000 meters altitude
The Krimmler Achendal is located at an altitude of 3000 meters. There rises on a glacier De Krimmler Ache, better known as the Krimmler Wasserfall.
The amount of Glacier water can vary greatly
In June and July the waterfall is at its best: an average of 20.0000 m3 of water flows downwards, compared to about 500 m3 in February. On August 25, 1987, 600,000 m3 was measured!
The waterfall clatters down in 3 parts. Phase 1. has a fall of 140 meters, phase 2. (the most beautiful) takes 100 meters and phase 3. 140 meters.
The River Salzach catches the water from the waterfall, brings it to the Inn as its tributary, the Inn brings it to the Donau and finally the Donau flows into the black sea.
The waterfall attracts many tourists who can climb up to the upper stage along a panorama walking path. A whole climb, and spectacular.
In 1835 Ignaz von Kürzinger, from Mittersill, put this route first. The Austrian Alpine Association improved the road to the current road in 1879.
By taxi to the Tauernhaus in the Krimmler Achendal
You can take a taxi bus to the Krimmler Achendal to make a beautiful walk that descends along the waterfall. On about three quarters of the waterfall road you can also choose to choose the old footpath.
The old Roman walkway over old roots and tree stumps
This footpath for advanced walkers takes you along the other side of the waterfall down over ancient paths (time of the Romans) where you hardly encounter a tourist as opposed to the tourist trail. You see the waterfall less often but for the real nature freaks this is a spectacularly beautiful path!
TIP 1 .: Allow yourself to be lifted by the taxi by 9.30 am. After that, the taxi will only take you halfway because the walkers will not hear the taxi coming by the sound of the roaring water.
TIP 2: Do you have a mountain bike? You can have your bike and all up to the waterfall and drop off at the Krimmler Achendal. Here one seems to be able to cycle spectacularly beautifully.
TIP 3. Would you like to visit the waterfall but do not like a tourist route? Then take the ALTE Path on the other side of the waterfall. Once established by the Romans, see sign and information at the bottom of the waterfall.
TIP 4. One of the most beautiful cycling routes in Austria starts at the waterfalls. The Tauernradweg takes you from Krimml to Salzburg, a large part along the Salzach river, over a distance of 300 km.
